Rocket Rig
step by step of rigging the rocket:
simple joint chain - only the left wing and ctrl panel are touched/folded/moved
added nurbs curve manipulators
tested smooth bind
adjusted weights/influence
final rig
stuff moved around
Brainache
im getting to the stage where most of the assets are modelled and rigged so i can start blocking out and applying textures but there are sooooo many files referenced all over the place so todays job has been restructuring and just keeping a track of everything each character seems to have about 20wip backups + props so in order to keep the project 'portable' on a usb ive had to spend ages sorting stuff out. not fun. but the bedroom set is complete and next up is rigging the rocket :)

Rocket update and flame test
Added the buttons and switches to the rocket dash and tested the texture transparency idea to get the jagged (but not very) edge without modelling and cutting cut up paper, intial test looks promising but will need some work to get it right

Basic Rocket Model
Real simple rocket model, bottle nose needs work/reference to get right and the internal flap with controls also needs to be created, as well as figuring out how to get flame-y paper out the tubes. Thinking about trying a poly plane rolled into a cylinder/use a cyclinder and play with the transparency of the texture rather than add unecessary mesh detail to make a ripped paper edge.... in my head it works but needs to be tested
Cave Entrance
Thinking about the shape and structure of the cave - is the last chunk of modelling left to complete, then texturing and blockout can happen. Also thinking of blue-y greys instead of red rocks so its more moon and less mars without being boring default grey
Medal Designs (wip)
Still deciding what this should look like and dont wanna just copy an exisiting Nasa medal but have figured that it'll be the metal clasp that's broken rather than a torn ribbon just to try and simplify the potential cloth animations (handkey not simulated). needs making and testing so for blockout purposes i'll have a plain disc shape and come back to the design once i know the story's working

arms fixed
Altering the arms and fixing the weights so the shoulder area deforms correctly. Probably the most infuriating job so far but thankfully over. for now.

suit badges
Research and intial ideas for patches on space suit, grey scale until i decide on the colour for the environment and the final suit. also want to figure out how to make the edges feel stitched

hand coloured stuff
really sketchy test where i printed out the uv map and coloured it in then scanned and applied but maybe worth trying properly and blowing up the print so i can see the mesh properly... eitherways i was thinking about the moon sequence and to avoid confusion/did he actually go i was thinking about hand drawing/painting the textures using kids stuff like crayons etc and that kinda helps avoid getting lost in anything trying to look real. although i forgot to do his head.... anywho not convinced this works so ill try something else...

Uv texture maps
Really happy with how well this unfolded, quick test shows the seams are ok, jut gotta work out how to make it look like i want it too
modelling moon suit
started with a simplish body with an all in one suit
Added various seams and padded knees and elbows etc

New faces and clothes
Remade all the blendshapes, face holds together better and cross blending them works this time as well as pushing them over the 0-1 slider range, a few shapes need improving but for the most part they work and i can get the range of movement i need
Also been looking at texturing and stuff, re scaled the head and arms to fit better and generally went over the whole thing to add more creases and fix breaks... then tried painting some textures, the jeans look like they'll flicker when rendered and it was trying to be too real. tried painted and photo textures neither really give the look im after so ill make the moon suit and come back to texturing later

New Stuff
Been stick doing a bunch of written work and needed a break. New card design. Will swap these or maybe just one of them for the final cg render.... when thats done...
